About Blinklab
Blinklab is a healthtech startup on a mission to revolutionize developmental diagnostics through neuroscience and technology. Our flagship product is a smartphone-based autism diagnostic app that uses neuroscience and machine learning to screen children. By empowering families and clinicians with easy at-home tools, we help children get support sooner and improve lives. Founded in 2021 by neuroscientists at Princeton University, Blinklab has grown into a public company with a small, passionate R&D team based in Delft, The Netherlands. We’re proud to be mission-driven and fueled by recent funding to expand our impact.
What You’ll Do
As our new Symfony Developer, you’ll play a key role in building and scaling the web platform behind our diagnostics. In this role, you will:
- Develop & maintain our Symfony-based web portal: You’ll design, build, and improve the secure cloud-based analysis platform that powers our app’s data and research tools. This includes implementing new features, APIs, and dashboards that help clinicians and researchers work with the data.
- Collaborate across teams: Work closely with our iOS app developers and data scientists to ensure seamless integration between the Swift app and the Symfony backend. You’ll integrate AI/ML components and Python-based analytics into the web platform, so a willingness to hop between PHP and a bit of Python is key.
- Write clean, scalable code: Use modern PHP (Symfony framework) best practices to craft code that is testable, efficient, and secure. You’ll do code reviews, optimize performance (e.g. database queries in PostgreSQL), and maintain high coding standards.
- Drive the product forward: In a small startup team, everyone wears multiple hats. You’ll participate in brainstorming features, planning sprints, and shaping the overall architecture. Your ideas will directly influence the product that our users (families and researchers) rely on.
- Ensure quality & compliance: Since we work with sensitive health data, you’ll help implement robust security measures and contribute to testing (unit/integration tests) to ensure our platform is reliable, compliant, and FDA-ready. We take quality seriously, but we also move fast with frequent iterations.
In short: you’ll be the go-to web developer in our mission-driven team, building something that truly helps people in the real world. No boring corporate projects here – everything you do will matter!
What You’ll Bring
Who can apply? We’re open to junior, mid-level, or senior developers – the role will be tailored to fit the right person. Whether you’re just starting your career or have years of experience, what matters most is your Symfony skills and your passion for our mission. Our ideal candidate has many of the following:
- Symfony expertise: Solid experience with PHP and Symfony (or a similar framework). You know your way around building web applications, routing, ORM/database interactions (bonus if you’ve used PostgreSQL), and you’re comfortable debugging and optimizing web apps.
- Front-end familiarity: Basic HTML/CSS skills (and maybe a touch of JavaScript) so you can adjust templates or craft simple front-end components when needed. You don’t need to be a design guru, but you can make the UI look presentable and handle form interactions.
- Python as a plus: Experience or interest in Python is a big plus. Our data processing and AI routines are all written in Python, so being able to read/write some Python and work with our data science tools will come in handy.
- Problem-solving mindset: You love tackling challenges and learning new things. Whether it’s figuring out how to optimize an algorithm or debugging a tricky issue, you approach problems with curiosity and persistence.
- Team player: Excellent communication skills and a collaborative attitude. We’re a tight-knit team, so you should enjoy working with others (developers, neuroscientists, clinicians, etc.), sharing knowledge, and bouncing ideas around.
- Drive and adaptability: A self-starter who can manage their own projects and deadlines. Because we’re a startup, things evolve quickly – you’re flexible, adaptable, and excited to grow with the company.
- Passion for our mission: Above all, you care about building products that actually help people. If the idea of using tech to improve children’s health and lives excites you, you’ll fit right in!
Don’t worry if you don’t check every single box. If you’re enthusiastic about what we’re doing and confident you can contribute, we want to hear from you! We value talent and drive, even for those still learning the ropes.
What We Offer
At Blinklab, we believe in providing an environment where you can do your best work and enjoy coming to work. Joining our team means:

- Growth and learning: You’ll be working with cutting-edge tech – from AI and machine learning to mobile and cloud computing. We encourage learning and will support your professional development (conferences, courses, or trying new technologies). As we grow, you grow with us, potentially into senior or lead roles.
- Competitive benefits: We offer a competitive salary (commensurate with your experience level) and potential stock options, so you share in Blinklab’s success. You’ll also get the usual perks like paid vacation, sick leave, and whatever gear you need to do your job right. Plus, free coffee and probably some stroopwafels in the office ☕😄.
